Shaun Miller poised to make league bow for new-look Bolton

10 September 2020

Bolton striker Shaun Miller should make his league debut for the club in the season opener against Forest Green Rovers.

The 32-year-old former Coventry, Sheffield United and Carlisle forward, one of 17 new players signed by new manager Ian Evatt, scored his first goal for the Trotters in the midweek EFL Trophy defeat by Crewe.

Evatt confirmed he had some concerns over “three or four that have picked up knocks and niggles” ahead of the Sky Bet League Two fixture, but would not reveal which players.

Wanderers came down from League One last season, which was beset by financial problems and saw manager Keith Hill leave at the end of his contract.

Forest Green head coach Mark Cooper will be looking for a response after two defeats in the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy.

Forwards Matt Stevens and Shawn McCoulsky could be in contention having both started in the midweek loss at Exeter.

Veteran midfielder Scott Wagstaff came through 45 minutes of the EFL Trophy tie, so will be assessed as he works his way back to full match fitness.

Defender Liam Kitching should be involved again after getting just under an hour under his belt.

Midfielder Elliott Whitehouse, who signed on a free transfer in August, continues to serve out a six-game suspension for racially abusing a Northampton player last season while at Grimsby.
