11 September 2020

Bristol Rovers have announced midfielder Tom Mehew has signed a contract extension.

Mehew, 19, has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, with the option of a further year.

It comes after he scored on his first-team debut on Tuesday, in an EFL Trophy match against Walsall at the Memorial Stadium.

Rovers boss Ben Garner said on the club’s official website: “We are very pleased that Tom has agreed to continue his journey here at Bristol Rovers.

“He’s a player that has impressed during pre-season, returning with a good attitude and the desire to improve. Tom is an intelligent player who will only get better as he develops physically and gains more experience.

“His debut on Tuesday was a reward for the hard work he’s applied and to mark the memorable occasion with a goal was a proud moment for both him and his family.”

Mehew, who has had loans at a number of non-league sides including Stratford Town last season, is the son of former Rovers player David Mehew.
