All golf courses shut in England and Wales following PM's address

All golf courses in England and Wales are shutting down in a bid to control the spread of the coronavirus.

The move follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation last night in which he told the public to 'stay at home'.

England Golf released a statement which read: "(The decision was) highly necessary and must be maintained until further notice.

“Keeping golf courses open is simply no longer compatible with the updated policy of government which is designed to save lives in a time of national emergency.”

Wales Golf added: “It is clear that golf clubs, courses and facilities must close with immediate effect.”

Scottish Golf have not yet ordered all courses to shut, but have told players to 'refrain from golfing until further notice'.

All non-essential shops have been ordered to shut by the Government, with a small list of stores being told they are allowed to stay open.
