Amanda Spratt takes victory in first of three-race Bay Crits series

Australian cyclist Amanda Spratt has won the opening women's race of the season in Melbourne.

The 32-year-old, who was competing in the first of a three-race series titled the Bay Crits, beat compatriot Ruby Roseman-Gannon by three seconds to take the victory.

Another Australian and Spratt's Lexus of Blackburn team-mate, Chloe Hosking, rounded off the top three a further 29 seconds back.

And after the race the two-time national road race champion was thrilled to have kicked off her 2020 campaign in the perfect way.

Speaking after her win, she said: "I'm so, so happy. It's the perfect way to start the year, and I'm happy to get the win for the Lexus of Blackburn team.

"Ruby was very impressive out there, so kudos to her – she had a great race. But we have a very strong line-up here, so we're very happy to get the win."
