Scottish Women’s Football has received an anonymous £100,000 donation to benefit clubs in the third tier.

The money was donated via the Scottish Football Partnership Trust (SFPT).

It comes off the back of another donation from philanthropist James Anderson who gave £250,000 last month to the Scottish Women’s Premier League One and Two clubs.

But the new donation will help 26 clubs in the new regional Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) Championship, who will each receive £3,846 after the money has been divided equally.

SFPT chair James Clydesdale said: "This is another great boost for women's football.

"It is very encouraging that another benefactor is prepared to support SWF at such a time.

“It shows how the status and progress of the women's game is recognised and acknowledged as an integral part of football in Scotland.”

Chair of SWF Vivienne Maclaren added: “These Championship clubs now find themselves in the position that having invested in their club programmes, they are without football and importantly have very few mechanisms for generating revenues. 

"This donation will help maintain the progress made within the women’s game and we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to the donor.”

The season in Scotland had just started before the sport was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
