ANZ Premiership benefits from netball fans around the world starved of their sport

The ANZ Premiership has seen a huge surge in viewers from around the world as netball begins to return.

The league got back underway on June 19 behind closed doors and is the first fare netball fans have been treated to since March.

As a result, there has been an increase in the number of fans streaming the games.

Head of Commercial at Netball New Zealand David Cooper said: "The lift has been significant right across the globe really.

"There's over 100,000 viewers globally that have watched the 2020 ANZ Premiership, which is probably two and a half times where we would have normally been at this point in the competition.

“I think if we remain at the same growth we've been getting over the last couple of rounds we will have more people at the end of this weekend watching, than watched the whole of 2019.”

The league’s matches have been played at New Zealand’s Netball Centre, but from the end of July, teams will be able to welcome fans to their home venues.

The Mainland Tactix will host the Northern Stars in the first game back on home turf, which has seen half the venue already sold out.

The Netball Superleague in the UK has been cancelled altogether, but Australia’s Suncorp Super Netball is set to return on August 1.
