Ababel Yeshaneh shatters women's half-marathon record

Ethiopia's Ababel Yeshaneh has smashed the women's half-marathon record at the Ras Al Khaimah event in UAE by 20 seconds.

Yeshaneh, 28, broke Joyciline Jepkosgei's record set in 2017 with a time of one hour, four minutes and 31 seconds.

The marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei came second and broke Jepkosgei's record by two seconds.

Both athletes wore a version of the controversial Nike Vaporfly shoes.

Last month World Athletics confirmed that the shoes will not be banned and that stricter regulations around running shoes have been introduced.
