Bradshaw can't quite reach medal heights in pole vault

Holly Bradshaw finished agonisingly close to the medals in the pole vault final at the World Athletics Championships in Doha.

The 27-year-old had one last attempt at 4.90 metres to get at least a bronze medal, but her knees touched the bar and her exceptional effort meant she had to settle for fourth place.

The final was won by Russian Anzhelika Sidorova, competing as an authorised neutral athlete, as she achieved a lifetime best at 4.95 metres with a stunning run at the death.

Going into the final attempt, Sidorova was tied with American Sandi Morris at 4.90 metres. Morris easily cleared 4.90 metres on her first attempt but hit the bar at 4.95 metres. She took silver while Greece's Katerina Stefanidi sealed the bronze medal with an attempt of 4.85 metres.

The first ever mixed 4x400 metre relay saw the USA break the world record again after doing it in the previous round with a time of three minutes and 9.34 seconds.

Poland played the strategy of going quick early and up until the last leg it looked as if they could pull off a huge shock. But once the USA's Michael Cherry breezed past, Jamaica, Bahrain and Great Britain also went past. Great Britain finished fourth in the first world final in this event.

For Team GB, it was another case of so close yet so far. Going into the final leg, they were in contention for a medal but a slight fumble in the passing of the baton to Martin Rooney meant they were unable to catch Bahrain.
