Britain's Partridge wins Big Half women's race as Bekele breaks Farah's course record in London

British distance runner Lily Partridge took victory in the Big Half's women's race for the first time in her career.

The 28 year-old beat fellow Brit Samantha Harrison by 11 seconds as she covered the 13.1 mile course in one hour, ten minutes and 50 seconds.

And Partridge, who is aiming to improve her full marathon time in 2020, was pleased with her win

She said: "My coach said to me before the start that the goal was to win.

"It wasn't about the time today. It's my fastest ever half marathon during a marathon build-up."

In the men's race, legendary Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele broke Briton Mo Farah's course record as he took the 2020 title in a time of one hour and 22 seconds, more than a minute quicker than Farah's time set last year.

After setting the record, Bekele said: "The new course record is a great bonus. I wasn't focused on time today, I just wanted to win.

"I'm on schedule in my preparation for the London Marathon in April. There's no question about the crowds in London being great.

"They were cheering all around the course and it felt like a great place to be."
