Dina Asher-Smith easily reaches the semi-finals of the 200m at Doha after historic silver

Newly-crowned 100m silver medallist Dina Asher-Smith ran the fastest time of the heats to reach the 200m semi-finals in Doha.

The 23-year-old won her heat in 22.32 seconds after winning the first 100m world medal for Britain since 1960.

Fellow Brits Jodie Williams and Beth Dobbin also reached the next round which will take place tomorrow. But Nigerian Blessing Okagbare, who is a former bronze medallist in the event, was disqualified after not staying in her lane.

Defending champion Elaine Thompson also qualified for the semi-finals, but Asher-Smith is considered the favourite.

The 400m heats also took place and favourite Shaunae Miller-Uibo breezed through to the semi-finals. The Bahamian finished fourth two years ago after a stumble near the end and she is looking for her first world gold medal.

Briton Laviai Nielsen also qualified for the 400m semi-finals with a time of 51.52 seconds, which got her a third place finish in the third heat.

In the javelin qualifying, the Chinese pair of Shiying Liu and Huihui Lyu led the way in their groups, with scores of 63.48 and 67.27m respectively.
