Doha World Championships: Asher-Smith breezes through 100m heat, but Oskan-Clarke falls in 800m

Dina Asher-Smith breezed through her 100 metre heat at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, but Shelayna Oskan-Clarke took a tumble to see her hopes dashed in the 800 metres.

The 23-year-old Brit clocked an impressive 10.96 seconds in the fourth heat, and it was clear she had plenty more left for the next round and the final, should she get there.

Three-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce threw down the gauntlet to the rest of the field as she ran the 100 metres in an incredible time of 10.80 seconds, which is the fastest time in a heat in world championships history.

Briton Daryll Neita ran a personal best of 11.12 seconds in her heat to qualify for the semi-finals of the 100 metres and was very calm and assured during her run.

However, British hopes took a blow as Oskan-Clarke who performed brilliantly in the heats yesterday, fell onto the track with less than 50 metres to go when she was hanging onto qualification hopes by a thread.

She got back up to finish the semi-final in a time of two minutes and 10.89 seconds as her attempts to push till the end saw her overbalance.

Alexandra Bell also failed to make it through to the final of the 800 metres which will see Ugandan Halimah Nakaayi full of confidence after her season best time of one minute and 59.35 seconds.

In the first mixed 4x400 metre relay heat, the USA broke the world record with a time of three minutes and 12.42 seconds. Team GB still qualified for the final despite finishing fourth because of their time of three minutes and 12.80 seconds.

In the hammer final, USA's DeAnna Price won gold with a stunning throw of 77.54 metres in her third attempt. She became the first American to win the hammer throw world title in history.
