Golden girl Dina Asher-Smith among finalists for Women's European Athlete of the Year

Great Britain's 200m World Champion Dina Asher-Smith has been named among the finalists for the Women's European Athlete of the Year award.

The 23-year-old speed queen won the award in 2018 and will be hoping to retain her title against the Netherlands' Sifan Hassan, Neutral athlete Mariya Lasitskene and Germany's Malaika Mihambo, who all pose impressive 2019 records of their own.

The four finalists were chosen from an initial list of 10 athletes, all nominated on their 2019 performances.

The initial 10 names were as follows: Dina Asher-Smith (GBR); Joanna Fiodorow (POL); Elenora Giorgi (ITA); Sifan Hassan (NED); Katarina Johnson-Thompson (GBR); Konstanze Klosterhalfen (GER); Gesa Felicitas Krause (GER); Mariya Lasitskene (ANA); Malaika Mihambo (GER); Anzhelika Sidorova (ANA).

The fans' vote via social media accounted for 25% of the overall vote, with the media vote, Member Federation, and European Expert Panel votes each accounting for 25%.

The four finalists and their 2019 achievements are:

Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) - World 200m champion, World 100m silver medallist, World 4x100m relay silver medallist, Diamond League 100m champion, European leader at 100m (10.83s) and 200m (21.88s).

Sifan Hassan (NED) - World 1500m & 10,000m champion, Diamond League 1500m & 5000m champion, WR holder in the mile (4:12.33) and 5km (14:44), European records at 1500m (3:51.95), 3000m (8:18.49) & 5000m (14:22.12), world leader in 1500m, 3000m & 10,000m, European leader in the half marathon (65:45).

Mariya Lasitskene (ANA) - won 21 of 23 competitions, European indoor high jump champion, World champion, Diamond league champion, cleared 2.00m or higher in 17 of 23 competitions, World leader at 2.06m.

Malaika Mihambo (GER) - World long jump champion (PB 7.30m), Diamond League long jump champion, European Athletics Team Championships winner, unbeaten in 10 competitions outdoors, world leader at 7.30m.

The winner will be announced at the Golden Tracks award ceremony in Tallin, Estonia on October 26. Voting is again comprised of 25% fan votes on social media, 25% media voting, 25% European Athletics Member Federations votes, and 25% expert European Athletics Panel votes.
