Injury forces GB's Tish Jones to pull out of marathon on day one at Doha

Great Britain marathon runner Tish Jones has been forced to pull out of today's women's marathon at the World Championships through injury.

The race is due off just before 10pm (GMT) this evening in Doha but the 34-year-old willnot be on the starting line due to a leg muscle injury.

Jones made her first senior debut for the team at the London Marathon in April. She ran a personal best of 2:31:00 and finished in 16th place, earning herself automatic qualification for the Worlds.

She said: "I was acutely aware of my leg, perhaps following training after my last race and immediate long-haul travel. I have been able to run but the issue became more prominent and restrictive.

"We have now had to make a decision to pull out of the race and think ahead to full recovery, a strong and healthy winter and focus on Olympic qualification for 2020."
