Kenya's Brigid Kosgei breaks marathon world record time to win Chicago Marathon

Kenya's Brigid Kosgei made history as she obliterated Paula Radcliffe's world record marathon time to win the Chicago Marathon.

Radcliffe's record time of 2:15:25 was set all the way back in April 2003 at the London Marathon, but Kosgei is now the new world record holder with an unofficial time of 2:14:02.

In the best performance in history by a woman in a marathon, she began in incredibly quick fashion and maintained that pace for the majority of the race. She separated herself from the pacemakers and still kept improving her pace in the last few metres.

At the end, Radcliffe was waiting for the 25-year-old to congratulate her but Kosgei remained remarkably calm after creating history.

Kosgei, who has now won the Chicago Marathon two years in a row and also won the London Marathon earlier this year with a time of 2:18:20, remains unbeaten this year with a victory also at the Great North Run.
