Sifan Hassan completes unprecedented double at World Championships in Doha

Sifan Hassan broke the championship record to win an unprecedented double in the 1500m at the World Athletics Championships in Doha.

The world number one Ethiopian-Dutch star pulled away from the rest of the field to take the race to everyone and at the end, her time of 3:51.95 was enough to add to her 10,000m title earlier in the week. She became the first woman in history to complete the 1,500m and 10,000m double at the world championships.

Defending champion Faith Kipyegon tired towards the end to take silver, while Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay held on for bronze.

British hope Laura Muir achieved a season best of 3:55.76, and despite her missing out on yet another world medal, was very happy with her fifth place finish after an injury ravaged build-up to the championships.

The top eight runners either ran a championship record, a national record, an area record, a season best or a personal best in a incredibly quick race.

Muir and Hassan immediately settled to the back of the field but once 300m had passed, the Dutchwoman passed everyone to take the lead.

She finished strongly to record the sixth fastest 1500m time in history.
