Six-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix makes US Athletics team for World Championships in Doha

Allyson Felix has made history by becoming the first American athlete to be selected for the World Athletics Championships nine times in a row.

The six-time Olympic gold medalist returned to racing at the Great North City Games last weekend a mere 10 months after giving birth to her first child.

And now the 33-year-old has been picked to compete as part of the 4x400m relay team in Doha later this month.

The US have picked a total of 141 athletes for their squad, the most notable of which is the 2017 100m winner Justin Gatlin, who was booed following his victory in London two years ago.

An eight-time medalist at the world championships, Gatlin has been suspended for doping offences twice in his career.

There is a total of eight world champions in the US team, including 3,000m steeplechase runner Emma Coburn, long jumper Brittney Reese, and 400m hurdler Kori Carter.

The World Athletics Championships get underway in Qatar on September 27 and finish on October 6.
