WATCH: Shot putter Strickler and middle-distance runner Hodgkinson win gold at GB Indoor Athletics Championships

Great Britain's Amelia Strickler won shot put gold with a new personal best at the British Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow yesterday.

The 26 year-old threw 17.97m in round four to put her ahead of defending champion Sophie McKinna, who could only muster 17.39m.

Speaking about her victory, Strickler said: "Anytime you throw a PB you have to celebrate. The indoor season is different this year because there’s no World Indoors but I wanted to come here and throw an indoor PB but I bettered it with a lifetime PB so I can’t complain.

"Getting the win as well makes it even sweeter. This last year, we’ve really been working on my technique and having that change in focus has been a really big boost to me.

"I have to move closer to the qualifying mark and make it to the Olympics and I’ll do everything in my power to get there, so fingers crossed that form transitions into outdoors."

Elsewhere, Keely Hodgkinson took gold in the 800m by 0.35 seconds, winning in a time of 2:04.37.

After her win, the 17 year-old said: "I'm over the moon to pull off that performance in my first indoor season. I knew it would be a tough competition, but I have trained really well and knew that I could put in the performance when it counted."

Melissa Courtney took advantage of Laura Muir's absence and stormed to victory in the 3,000m in 9:48.54.

In the women's 20km walk, Abigail Jennings edged out Pagen Spooner with a personal best of 25:28.46.

In the sprinting events Ama Pipi won gold in the 200m with a pb of 23.23.

In the 400m Jessie Knight won in 52.76 seconds, while Holly Turner came in second more than second behind.

And Naomi Ogbeta retained her triple jump title with a winning distance of 13.83m, while Beth Partridge beat Morgan Lake in the high jump as she cleared 1.87m.
