Australian netball star April Brandley signs for GIANTS Netball five months after giving birth

Australian netball star April Brandley has signed for GIANTS Netball ahead of the Suncorp Super League 2020 season.

The 30 year-old defender is returning to the sport just five months after giving birth to her son Clay.

She has previously played at top-flight clubs including the New South Wales Swifts and West Coast Fever.

In 2017 she moved to Collingwood Magpies and spent three seasons there before she announced she was stepping away from the game to have a baby.

But now Brandley is set to return for the season-opener against New South Wales Swifts at the weekend at Queensland's Nissan Arena.

On her return, she said: "Everything has sort of happened a lot of sooner than expected, but I’m certainly keen to get back into it all.

“You never know how you are going to go in meeting the demands of mum life, but Clay’s been great and the support from my partner Jason has allowed me to return to what I love doing.”

She has been a consistent member of the national team after making her international debut in 2013, and was part of the squad that finished runners-up at the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool.

The 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season is set to begin on August 1 after it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
