Undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields has labelled Laila Ali's opponents 'soccer moms' as a potential fight between the two continues to build momentum.

The two boxing superstars have been exchanging words in the media for several weeks, sparking many to believe a surprise bout could be on the cards.

Ali, 42, retired in 2007 with a perfect record of 24 wins from 24 fights, but Shields, who is currently 10-0 and a three-weight world champion, says she only achieved that level of success because she did not fight quality opposition.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Shields said: "She (Ali) fought soccer moms. I've fought former world champions. I compared my first 10 fights with her last 10 and if you look at their records you will see that she fought against people with majority losses. Messing with me is a whole different animal."

Ali is the daughter of legendary heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, something Shields also singles out as a reason for her unfaltering confidence.

"She's going to come in thinking that because she's bigger, and she's Muhammad Ali's daughter, and she was 24-0 back in the day, that the skill level of fighters is still the same as back then," she added.

"The money is there. She may have all that stuff going on but she isn't making $10m in 20 minutes, that's for sure. Or five. The winner gets $10m, that'll be me. She'll get five."
