Nicola Adams wants to see a female super-fight to take the sport 'to another level'

Retired boxer Nicola Adams wants to see a female super-fight and has credited the Olympics for raising the sport's profile.

The double Olympic champion retired earlier this month after she feared that she would lose her sight. She tore her pupil in her last fight against Maria Salinas in September.

The 37-year-old said: “I definitely think a real 50-50 women's super-fight between a couple of high-profile champions will take the sport to the next level and I think that will happen as more girls turn pro with high profiles.

“The women’s pro game has changed massively, the Olympics has raised the profile of the sport so much and then promoters took notice and wanted to be part of the action.

“Ronda Rousey in MMA then took off hugely, headlining main event shows and I think that showed boxing promoters that women could do it in their sport, especially with the 2016 Olympians turning over,” Adams told SunSport.

Adams left a legacy after becoming the first woman to win a boxing gold medal and she said she wants to remain within the sport.

Adams added: “I do want to remain a part of boxing in some shape or form but right now I am just enjoying time with my friends and family and not having to make 8st for fights anymore.”
