Tyson Fury's costume designer has rejected Deontay Wilder's claims that the weight of his ringwalk outfit played a part in his defeat last Saturday.

The 'Gypsy King' won the WBC World Heavyweight Title after destroying Wilder over seven rounds, with the American's corner eventually throwing in the towel.

But the American has since come out and suggested the first loss of his career was a result of his 40lb ringwalk costume, mask and crown, something Fury's designer Melissa Angelsea vehemently disagrees with.

The creative director of Lancashire-based fashion company Suzy Wong told BBC Sport: "Let's be honest. From a man that's six foot seven and weighs what Wilder does, a three stone costume makes absolutely no ounce of difference.

"We used thirty thousand Swarovski crystals on a costume for Dillian Whyte that we made and it was super heavy, but he knocked Dereck Chisora out when he wore that costume."

Wilder also came out and said his choice of costume was a way of paying tribute to Black History Month.

Meanwhile, Anglesea, who went for a more traditional approach with Fury's outfit, revealed the Englishman's choice of attire has always been a way of showing off his heritage.

"He's so classic. He's always worn the green which is a representation to his traveller history and his Irish background as well," she said.

"What Tyson wore on Saturday night is always the best because he looked absolutely fantastic.

"Muhammad Ali would have worn something quite similar when he had fantastic fights all those years ago.

"We didn't make the crown, I think he got that from the Poundshop! But that's the thing from Tyson. He's got such self belief. Maybe that's a lesson for us all. He really thinks he is the Gypsy King."

It is expected Fury and Wilder will fight for a third time given the American has already expressed interest in exercising his rematch clause.

That trilogy bout will likely take place before the end of July, with the US tipped to stage the event once more.
