Welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus signs deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing

Undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus has signed a multi-fight contract with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing.

The 38-year-old is set to have her first fight under her new promotional outfit on a show in Monte Carlo on November 30.

Braekhus has held a version of the welterweight belt since 2009, making 24 defences and unifying multiple times over the course of the decade.

On the move, she said: "I'm very proud to announce that I am joining forces with Matchroom Boxing for the next chapter of my journey.

"As always I'll be looking for the biggest fights and the toughest challenges in the ring. Thanks very much to my fans all over the world who have supported me for so many years. I'm excited to return to the ring soon."

Hearn now promotes two of the biggest names in women's boxing as Braekhus joins Katie Taylor as part of his stable.

Speaking about the signing, he said: "I'm delighted to welcome Cecilia to the team and I'm very excited for the future.

"Cecilia has been a pioneer of women's boxing and is established as one of the biggest stars in the sport.

"Right now women's boxing is stronger than ever and there are some huge fights and events to be made over the next few years that I fully expect Cecilia to be a major part of."

Meanwhile, Taylor will bid to win a world title in a second weight class when she takes on Christina Linardatou for the WBO Super Lightweight crown at Manchester Arena on November 2.
