Bristol City boss Tanya Oxtoby says her squad have returned to training ‘in good shape’ ahead of WSL season

Bristol City head coach Tanya Oxtoby has revealed her squad are in ‘good shape’ after returning to training ahead of their 2020-21 Women’s Super League campaign.

The side, who finished tenth at the end of last season, have spent months off the field after being in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 38 year-old said: "It’s great to be back out on the grass, it’s been a long, long wait.

"They’ve come back in really good shape, if I’m honest probably better than I thought they would have, given the time off.

“It’s different, it’s smaller groups and we’re having to really think outside the box with the way we do things, but it’s been a challenge and like I said the girls have been fantastic.”

Over the summer she believes the club have secured ‘really positive’ signings including Ella Mastrantonio, Megan Wynne, Georgia Wilson and Jemma Purfield.

She added: "We knew the areas we really needed to strengthen in, and we’ve done that.

“I think the characters we’ve recruited as well as the football ability will really suit what we’re trying to do.”
