Bristol City’s Megan Wynne to have surgery after tearing ACL in pre-season training

Bristol City’s Megan Wynne is ‘heartbroken’ after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament during a collision in pre-season training.

The 27 year-old winger signed for the club earlier this summer on a one-year deal after completing a move from Tottenham.

Wynne, who has earned five caps for Wales, will now require knee surgery and rehabilitation.

She said on Twitter: "I am heartbroken right now.

“I have not come this far and worked this hard to give up now. It's a long road ahead but with the best teammates and staff around me, I know I will be back.”

Bristol City boss Tanya Oxtoby added: "We are naturally very disappointed for her as she has shown great signs of progression during the her time with us last season and we were excited about how much further she could develop this season.

“Meg is a strong and positive person and I have no doubt she will come back from this, and as a group we will make sure we support her through this difficult time.”

The Women’s Super League season is set to start on September 5 and Bristol City will go head-to-head against Everton on September 6.
