Athletics star Jemma Reekie beats team-mate Laura Muir in 800m in Trieste

Running sensation Jemma Reekie edged out team-mate and running partner Laura Muir to seal victory in the 800m in Trieste, Italy.

The 22 year-old has impressed once again on the track after already smashing three British indoor records in two weeks earlier this year, and winning the 1500m at the Grand Prix in Glasgow.

She won the 800m in 1:59.52 which is a new outdoor personal best and managed to hold off Muir, the European 1500m champion, who clocked 1:59.54.

The under-23 double European champion, Reekie, said: “Nice rust buster. it’s been too long! Happy to get a Sub 2 outdoors for the first time. Always wanting more.”

The duo have been training together with coach Andy Young during lockdown after the coronavirus pandemic forced sporting events to be postponed or cancelled.
