British tennis star Katie Boulter volunteers for Age UK as she awaits tennis return

British tennis star Katie Boulter has volunteered to work for Age UK during coronavirus lockdown as she waits for tennis to return.

The 23 year-old rose to fame after world No 1 Naomi Osaka called her 'really good' at Wimbledon in 2018, and has since played in the world group II Fed Cup with GB last year.

However with the tennis season suspended until August 1, she has instead been volunteering at a charity that helps the elderly.

She said: "I've actually signed up to do an Age UK charity thing in which I get to go and visit people and have a relationship with elderly people.

“What they do is they pair you with up to three people.

“You can either go and see them, talk to them over the phone, go and do their shopping for them and basically just try and help them make their lives a little bit easier. Hopefully they won’t be so lonely. It keeps them busy.”

With both the WTA Tour and Wimbledon cancelled this year Boulter will be looking forward to returning to court later this summer.
