Broadcaster Steve Price says the AFL is being 'shamed' into supporting women's football

Controversial broadcaster Steve Price has said he 'wouldn't even cross the road' to watch Australian women's football.

He made his comments on Australian radio, saying he was outraged about the money that is being invested in the league.

Price claims he has been told that for the league to put on four women's games it costs one million Australian dollars.

He questioned: "Is that a good spend?" as he was interviewing Collingwood Football Club president Eddie McGuire.

McGuire retorted: "You will never get a dollar of government money for any infrastructure unless you've got female sports involved.

"We've just done a deal which will be announced in the next couple of months... and the key part of that was the women's sports."

To which Price replied: "So governments are shaming you into supporting women's football so you can get infrastructure built?"

While criticising the AFLW he did say that he 'loved' women's sports.

"But the amount of money we're ploughing into this is ridiculous," he added.

The AFLW is currently in progress with the regular season concluding on March 29. The semi-finals and Grand Final dates have not yet been confirmed.
