Chelsea defender Millie Bright signs new deal to keep her at WSL champions until 2023

Chelsea and England defender Millie Bright has signed a new contract with the club to keep her at Kingsmeadow until 2023.

The 26-year-old has spent five years playing under Blues boss Emma Hayes, winning three Women’s Super League titles.

And coming off the back of their league triumph last season - which they won on a points-per-game basis after the coronavirus pandemic shortened the campaign - she has wasted no time in putting pen to paper on a new contract.

Speaking about her deal, she told the club website: "It’s a massive honour for a big club like Chelsea to want you to sign again, for the length that I have.

"To stay at a club that I absolutely love to bits, the players, the staff, representing the badge, it’s everything that I’ve ever dreamt of and I couldn’t imagine myself being anywhere else."

Along with her three league titles, Bright has also added to her domestic trophy cabinet with two Women’s FA Cups.

And now the Lioness is eyeing European success to push Chelsea on to the next level.

"It’s been a long wait and it was definitely hard to sit at home and watch other teams playing in the Champions League," she added.

"It felt like we were missing out and it should be a competition that we should be in with the quality that we’ve got in the squad.

"We never want to be in that position where we miss out on Champions League again so I’m excited for it finally to come around. We want to definitely go on and win the Champions League.

"It’s something that Emma is passionate about and us as players, we are at that level now where we want to go and push on and win it."
