England all-rounder Jenny Gunn retires from international cricket

England all-rounder, Jenny Gunn has announced her retirement from international cricket after 15 years' service.

"I have made one of the hardest decisions and decided the time has come to retire from international cricket," she said.

"I started as a young kid playing the game I loved for fun and I could only dream of becoming a professional cricketer.

"I've been lucky enough to play in some great teams and to be part of some amazing battles over the years, but as a small girl I always said I wanted to put a World Cup medal next to my dad's European Cup winner's medal (her father Bryn was part of the Nottingham Forest side that won the trophy), and there are now three of them next to his on the mantelpiece!"

The 33-year-old made her debut in 2004 and has 259 caps across all three formats of the game including three as captain. Her unorthodox bowling action was twice reported to the ICC but cleared  as the ICC cited the "extreme hypertension" as a direct cause of her double-jointed elbows.

Only ex-captain Charlotte Edwards, to whom Gunn served as vice captain from 2010-2014, has more caps (309) for England women.

Gunn has five times been a member of Ashes winning sides as well as winning the ODI World Cup in 2009 and 2017 and the World T20 in 2009.

She made her final appearance against the West Indies in June and ends her career in second place to Katherine Brunt on the list of leading England wicket tackers in ODIs with 136 and has a top score of 73 with the bat. She has also taken 5fers in all three formats of the game (Test 5/19, ODI 5/22, T20I 5/18.)

This weekend Gunn also completed the three peaks challenge to raise money for the Professional Cricketers Trust and the Tom Maynard Trust, both of which are dedicated to supporting people who have been involved in cricket.
