Jess Jonassen shines with the ball as Australia beat India to clinch T20 tri-series

Jess Jonassen posted sensational bowling figures of 5-12 as Australia clinched the T20 tri-series with an 11-run victory over India.

After captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat, Beth Mooney hit a sublime 71 not out as the reigning world champions set their opponents a target of 156 to win.

For a while it seemed as if India were on course to beat Australia for the second time in a week when Smriti Mandhana smashed 66 off just 37 balls.

But Jonassen then stepped up to rattle through India's middle order as the visitors capitulated and were bowled out for 144.

And ahead of the T20 World Cup later this month, Lanning feels the series victory is the best possible way to head into the tournament.

She said: "I think it's been a brilliant series for us. We've been put to the test every game that we've played.

"(We've played) two world class sides that are going to do very well in this World Cup coming up.

"I'd take this tournament every day of the week heading into a World Cup."

The Women's T20 World Cup gets underway on Friday, February 21 in Sydney, with the opening game set to be a repeat of the tri-series final as Australia host India.
