2019 Prudential RideLondon Weekend Preview: Kirsten Wild returns to try and retain her title

Kirsten Wild will return to London to defend her Prudential RideLondon title in an action-packed weekend of cycling in the nation's capital.

The women's race boasts the impressive tag of having the biggest prize money on offer for a one-day race in the UCI Women's Tour at €100,000.

And the men also take to the streets on Sunday as they compete in the Surrey Classic, with many of the favourites having just ridden the Tour de France.

Both the women's and men's races will finish on The Mall, while 25,000 amateur cyclists will also take part - a legacy from London 2012.

Caleb Ewan will be in London at the weekend just seven days after winning on the Champs Elysees - the most prestigious stage in the Tour de France

The elite women racing for Britain include Olympic champion Elinor Barker, her sister Megan, Elizabeth Bennett, Natalie Redmond, Manon Lloyd and Abby-Mae Parkinson.

Marianne Vos and Elisa Balsamo, who finished second and third behind Wild in last year's race, will also be a part of the 2019 peloton.

In the men's race, Caleb Ewan is the favourite to take the win as he is coming off the back of a stellar Tour de France where he picked up three stage victories.

Elia Viviani, Arnaud Demare and Alexander Kristoff will be competing with the Australian in what will almost certainly be a sprint finish, while British hopes will be on the shoulders of youngster Ethan Hayter.

Last year, Pascal Ackermann took the win and Viviani finished second - something the Italian will hope to rectify this time around.

Coverage of the women's race starts at 18:00PM on BBC2 on Saturday, while the men's event can be seen from 15:45PM on BBC1 on Sunday.
