Briton Laura Kenny finishes 12th in omnium after early crash at Track World Championships
British cyclist Laura Kenny finished 12th in the omnium at the Track World Championships following a crash at the tournament in Berlin.
The four-time Olympic champion was involved in a five rider crash in the first race of the omnium which resulted in her needing stitches to her right eye.
She was already competing with a broken shoulder that she sustained at the Track World Cup in January. She opted against surgery to fix her shoulder so she would have a shot at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
She said: "It just wasn't my day. When I came down I knew my shoulder was OK and that was all I cared about and then the blood gushed out of my face and I thought 'now what have I done'?
"But I am glad I carried on. I need to be in races, otherwise in six months time I will feel nervous," she told BBC Sport.
The Track World Championships conclude tomorrow.
