USA's Dygert sensationally breaks individual pursuit world record on way to gold medal at World Track Championships

American Chloe Dygert thrilled fans on day five of the World Track Championships as she broke her own individual pursuit world record twice in Berlin.

The 23 year-old, who was already crowned the world time trial champion on the road towards the end of last year, broke the world record she set in Apeldoorn in 2018 by three seconds in the qualifying round.

And Dygert then went faster by another three tenths in the final later that day to blow away the rest of the field and stun the crowd.

The American rider took the gold medal ahead of a trio of German competitors, with Lisa Brennauer picking up the silver medal, Franziska Brausse the bronze and Lisa Klein narrowly missing out on the podium.

Elsewhere on day five, the madison was won by the Dutch pair of Kirsten Wild and Amy Pieters.

The experienced duo held off the challenge from France's Clara Copponi and Marie Le Net, with Italy's Letizia Paternoster and Elisa Balsamo rounding off the top three.
