England's Alice Hewson has won her first Ladies golf European Tour event at the South African women's Open.

The 22 year-old finished five under at one of the remaining few sporting competitions which has carried on despite the coronavirus outbreak.

She began the day three shots behind Olivia Cowan from Germany and won by one at the Westlake Golf Club.

Hewson said afterwards: "Growing up as a kid, all I could ever dream of was playing on the Ladies European Tour and to come and win my first event, the feeling is indescribable.

"This has definitely happened a lot quicker than I thought it would. I was hoping to get off to a nice steady start, but this is definitely a good thing."

The next leg which was set to take place in Saudi Arabia has been postponed.
