England’s Rachel Daly’s views on Phil Neville replacement and big hint of move to WSL

England international Rachel Daly is keen for Phil Neville’s replacement to take the team to the next level and has also hinted at a potential move to the Women’s Super League.

Neville, who has been in charge of the team since 2018, will leave his role as national team coach in July next year when his contract runs out.

And with the likes of two-time World Cup winner Jill Ellis in the frame to replace the 43-year-old, Daly is hopeful a change in head coach can push the team on to bigger things.

“For me, it's just someone who wants to take us to the next level," she told Sky Sports. "I absolutely love Phil and I think he's done a fantastic job, regardless of the results in the past.

"He put a stamp on what he wanted us to be and everyone bought into that.

"We want someone who can come in and drive us to be the best. You've got the players in the squad who want to do that, they want to go to the next level, and these next four years are going to be absolutely massive."

England were knocked out of the Women’s World Cup by eventual champions USA last summer when they were beaten 2-1.

But Daly, who plays in America for Houston Dash, experienced club success recently when she captained her US side to victory in the NWSL Challenge Cup.

And the 28-year-old Harrogate-born star, who can play in defence, midfield and as a striker, feels it may now be the time to move to England and the WSL.

"My agent's talking to teams right now and I think a lot of players are wanting to do that, so getting in there early is what needs to happen," she added.

"I would absolutely love to come to the WSL. It's almost like a try before you buy type thing! I've always said I wouldn't not want to come back but I'd love to see what it's like.

"I hear all the [England] girls [talking], I watch all the games and the league has just grown immensely.

"I'd love to be a part of that, I think my agent's on that, so hopefully in the next week or so we'll find out some more."
