European swimming champion Georgia Davies says Tokyo 2020 postponement is a ‘blessing’

Team GB swimming star Georgia Davies has said the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is a ‘blessing’.

The 29 year-old will be competing in her third Olympics next summer and believes the delay can give her ‘more time to be even better’.

Davies is the four-time European Champion and won bronze at the 2019 World Championships in the 4x100 metre mixed medley.

“I was almost in denial that the Olympics had been postponed,” she told BBC Sport Wales

"I was trying to keep pushing on with training at home with whatever exercises I could do.

“But rather than being annoyed about not being able to compete... I just see it as a blessing that I have more time to be even better by next year.”

The Tokyo Olympic Games will now take place on July 23-August 8 in 2021.
