Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord believes it will 'take time' before the Women's Super League pitches will be as good as the men's

Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord believes it will 'take time' before the Women's Super League pitch quality will be as good as the men's.

Several WSL games have been affected by the poor quality of pitches in recent months.

In particular, Liverpool's Prenton Park has faced backlash after two of their games were postponed and one was forced to move location.

Speaking about the issue, Dutch international Roord told Telegraph Sport: "The whole situation, that’s not how it should be.

"Most of the other pitches [in the WSL] are fine. I’m not complaining. Obviously, there’s a difference between the pitches where we’re playing [at Arsenal] and pitches where some of the other [WSL] teams play.

"They’re not always great, but it is what it is. Obviously, we’d love to have great pitches like the men always have. I guess that’s something that will take a bit more time."

Roord played at youth level for The Netherlands before she making her senior debut in 2015 and has since earned 54 caps.

Before signing for Arsenal last year, she also played almost 40 times for German giants Bayern Munich.

And Roord said she believes the pitches in the Bundesliga are 'great' compared to those in England.

"Some clubs have great pitches, Bayern is a big club and has a great pitch," she added. “[For] teams with less money and facilities, there was a difference in the pitches."

Arsenal currently sit third in the WSL but have struggled in recent weeks following two consecutive defeats to both Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Gunners' next game is against Liverpool at 7pm on Thursday at Chester FC's Deva Stadium.
