Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema praises her homeland for stance on equal pay

The Netherlands and Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema has said not all clubs and countries can be expected to provide equal pay.

The Netherlands announced recently that the women's national team will receive the same amount of money as the men starting in 2023.

She said: “I think with the national team we are breaking barriers.

“I think it’s too easy to say right now every single country or club deserves equal pay, because we’re not there yet,” she told The New York Times.

Miedema became Holland's all-time leading goalscorer at the World Cup last year as she scored two goals against Cameroon.

“I’ve probably won more than I ever thought I was going to win,” she added.

“I would really like to be one of those people that can bring women’s football up to a higher platform.”
