Vivianne Miedema scored four goals to help Arsenal easily beat Slavia Prague, while Manchester City conceded a late equaliser against Atletico Madrid in the opening leg of the last-16 stage of the Women's Champions League.

Dutchwoman Miedema scored a hat-trick within 40 minutes away from home in the Czech Republic and she added her fourth quickly after the half-time break. Captain Kim Little extended the lead to five from the penalty spot with still more than 30 minutes remaining.

The home side got two goals of their own after the 70th minute through Katerina Svitkova and Mia Persson, but the Gunners are in pole position to reach the quarter-finals with a 5-2 lead.

But City, the only other English side in the Champions League, were held to a draw at home against the side that had knocked them out in the last 32 the previous season.

Janine Beckie gave the Women's Super League leaders an early lead in the 13th minute as she latched onto Keira Walsh's through ball. City were looking comfortable in closing out the match and taking a 1-0 lead into the next leg but, Charlyn Corral gave Madrid a precious 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, defending champions Lyon beat Fortuna convincingly away from home as Ada Hegerberg and Le Sommer each scored twice. Glasgiw City continued their impressive run as they beat Brondby 2-0 away from home.
