Chelsea boss Emma Hayes says her side are showing signs of a 'great team' in Women's Super League title push

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes believes her team showed signs of a 'great team' in their 2-0 victory over Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Blues were unconvincing in beating Marta Tejedor's struggling side as Guro Reiten and Beth England scored the goals that saw them pick up all three points.

But although it was not a thrilling display of attacking football, Hayes feels it is the sort of performance a top team puts in and still comes out with the win.

She said: "The players are hungry, they are three points further ahead. We can win different ways. It’s definitely a sign of a great team but time will tell.

"If we all think every game is going to be a crescendo moment then we are mistaken. It’s about winning and winning however we need to win and we’ve done that.

"Birmingham have got to stay in the league, they have got to do everything they can to get a point and they are chasing points to stay up."

Chelsea are yet to lose in the WSL this season and have not been beaten in the league since Birmingham won 3-2 at Kingsmeadow in January 2019.

Hayes' side's next game is against Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup this Sunday, before they travel to rivals Manchester City on February 23 in a game that could define where the league title ends up.
