England's Jill Scott credits Sunderland for her and other Lionesses success

Manchester City and England's Jill Scott says she and several other Lionesses owe their success to Sunderland.

Seven of England's World Cup squad once played for Sunderland including Scott, Steph Houghton, Lucy Staniforth and Lucy Bronze.

And Scott says she would like to inspire the next generation of northern players.

"The region has got so many players if you look. The likes of Steph Houghton, Demi Stokes... the list goes on.

"Credit to Mick Mulhern really, when he had a lot of us at Sunderland and I think he definitely pushed us in the right way and we've definitely got a bit of that North East grit about us.

"Lucy Bronze plays like that too and that's what makes us get selected sometimes, just that North East attitude of 'I'm going to get stuck in'," she told Chronicle Live.
