FA Cup round-up: Bremer, Park and Stanway all hit hat-tricks as Manchester City hit Ipswich for TEN, while Staniforth scores but sees red in Birmingham victory

Manchester City continued their defence of the FA Cup with a breathtaking 10-0 win over fourth tier Ipswich to book their place in the quarter-finals.

After a cagey opening 20 minutes in which the visitors frustrated their Women's Super League hosts, Lauren Coombs opened the scoring to the relief of those around the Academy Stadium.

Bremer and Park then added two more quick goals before the half-hour mark as City went into the break with a comfortable three-goal lead.

In the second half, Alan Mahon's side ramped up the intensity on their minnow opponents even more as Bremer and Stanway helped themselves to two more each to make it 7-0 in a scintillating 16 minute spell of explosive attacking football.

Still with 25 minutes to play, Park finished off a pair of quick moves to stake her claim for the match ball, before Stanway became the third hat-trick hero of the day three minutes from time.

City are now into the hat for the last eight and will be joined by fellow WSL side Birmingham City, who left it late to beat third tier Sunderland 1-0 at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.

Lucy Staniforth's wicked free-kick five minutes from time was followed just moments later by a mysterious red card for the England striker, with nobody in the ground sure what it was for.

Nevertheless, Staniforth's set-piece proved enough to book the Blues' place in the draw for the next round.

All other FA Cup ties scheduled for this weekend were postponed due to dangerous weather conditions.

The FA Cup quarter-final draw will take place on Monday at 8:45 pm.
