Football star Lucy Bronze reveals she wants to captain England

Footballer Lucy Bronze has said she wants to become England captain.

Bronze has impressed fans and critics throughout her career and particularly in the last year.  She has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or award, FIFA's Women's Player of the Year and has won the BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year.

Her next ambition is to lead her country, currently the role held by Bronze's former Manchester City team mate Steph Houghton.

Currently playing in France with Olympique  Lyonnais, she said: "I'd love to be the captain of England. I want to win things with England and have an influence with the team, and I think it's a great way to do it," she told the BBC.

Bronze, 28, added the reason she hasn't retired yet is because of the buzz surrounding the women's game.

"Now, to be be playing at Wembley with England, for millions of people to be watching the Women's World Cup, it's exciting and the quality of football is only going to improve.

"It's part of the reason I don't want my career to end. I want to carry on now with the buzz around women's football."
