Honours even for Manchester City and Chelsea in 3-3 draw at top of Women's Super League

Manchester City remain at the top of the Women's Super League table after a tightly-contested 3-3 draw against Chelsea at the Academy Stadium.

City's striker Ellen White opened the scoring from close-range after a near-perfect ball from team-mate Janine Beckie.

But it was Emma Hayes' side who quickly fought back as Ji So-yun scored the equaliser from the edge of the box.

The Blues had a chance to go ahead after Joanna Andersson played the ball to Australian international Sam Kerr who steered her header the wrong side of the post.

And once the deadlock was broken by White, the intensity picked up from both teams who are hunting for the league title, with just one point separating them.

And at the hour mark City found their feet as youngster Georgia Stanway blazed past Chelsea’s defence and sealed their second.

But Chelsea fought back, again, in what was a nail-biting game as captain Magdalena Eriksson scored the equaliser eight minutes later which brought the score to 2-2.

And teammate England finally got on target with an impressive long-shot, which led Chelsea in front for the first time in the game.

As City ramped up their performance a few gears, Lauren Hemp picked up their third and final goal with just ten minutes remaining.

The game saw nine extra minutes added on to full time but neither side could secure victory.
