Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola donates a million euros to fight coronavirus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has donated a million euros (£925,000) to help fight the coronavirus outbreak in his native Spain.

His donation will go towards a campaign that is supported by the Medical College of Barcelona and the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation.

It will pay for medical equipment and personal protective equipment for hospital staff.

Spain is one of the worst affected countries in Europe with latest figures on Tuesday showing nearly 40,000 confirmed cases and 2,696 deaths.

Other stars in football have also been donating to charity during the pandemic. Lionel Messi reportedly gave a million euros to two hospitals, one in Barcelona and one in Argentina.

While Cristiano Ronaldo also donated a million to three intensive care units in Lisbon and Porto.

And last week Bayern Munich player Robert Lewandowski donated a million euros to help the fight in Germany.
