Matildas one game away from Olympics after thrashing Vietnam 5-0

Australia have beaten Vietnam 5-0 in the first leg of their Olympic qualification play-off.

The Matildas will play Vietnam again on March 11 and, barring a miracle, will secure their spot in Tokyo.

Chelsea's star striker Sam Kerr scored two goals to take her international tally to 40.

While fellow Women's Super League player Chloe Logarzo, who signed for Bristol City earlier this season, also scored.

Emily van Egmond and Clare Polkinghorne added two more to secure the team's victory to bring them a step closer to Tokyo this summer.

Kerr tweeted after the match saying: "Newcastle, as always AMAZING. Thank you for staying out in the rain & getting us over the line. 1 game down, 1 to go. Let’s keep going!! #GoMatildas"

While Caitlin Foord wrote: "Newcastle - 14,000 !! Thank you, you guys are incredible! Even to stay with us during the rain."
