Just one positive result as all 802 WSL and Women’s Championship players given first round of Covid-19 tests

All 802 players from the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship have had their first round of coronavirus testing and one positive result was found.

The testing took place between July 2 and 11. The Football Association have said they will not be naming the player or the club they play for.

Some of the WSL clubs have returned to training this week for the first time since the league was suspended as a result of the pandemic.

They are returning in multiple phases. The first phase sees players allowed to train in groups of up to five with social distancing in place, players are also allowed to use the gym but only if equipment is cleaned afterwards.

Phase one has to be in place for one week until they move to phase two which introduces close contact training and sharing equipment.

It is then up to individual clubs as to when they move into phase three which sees 11 v 11 training.

The top flight are scheduled to start their next season on September 5.
