The Professional Footballers' Association creates new women's football department

The Professional Footballers' Association have created a new department for women's football.

It will be led by Marie-Christine Bouchier and will primarily focus upon evolving and growing the game in the UK.

The new department has replaced the Player Management Department which was also led by Bouchier.

She said: "We now have a dedicated women's football department because the game is growing at a fast rate. We want to ensure we have the infrastructure in place to support the developing needs of the players."

The game has seen an increase in popularity since the World Cup last summer with attendances at Women's Super League games breaking records this season.

Crowds across the WSL have averaged 4,112 which is an increase of almost 25 per cent on last season.
