Wales secure confident win over Estonia in international friendly

A dominant display by Wales saw them defeat Estonia 2-0 in a friendly on their return to the Racecourse Ground.

Jayne Ludlow's team were superior from the off and never let Estonia into the game securing the win with second half goals from Megan Wynne and substitute Nadia Lawrence.

Chances came and went in the first half for the home side, who maintained the majority of possession before Wynne broke the deadlock with quick reactions when Ffion Morgan's header was saved after a cross from Sophie Ingle.

Wales quickly doubled their advantage as Angharad James broke through the weak Estonian defence and sent a perfectly directed ball to Lawrence for her first international goal.

The result gives the Welsh team confidence heading into their remaining EURO 2021 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Norway.

After the game, Wales manager Ludlow said: "We give lots of respect for the Estonian team under relatively new management in Jarmo Matikainen [her Welsh predecessor.]

"We know how good a job he did with us and they are far more organised than they ever have been."

But she said there was still work to be done ahead of their upcoming games: "There were times for us where we could have been more clinical in our decisions but across the board it was good competition for us, it was what we needed at this point in time."
