Women's Champions League: Manchester City ease into last 16 thanks to Janine Beckie hat-trick

Manchester City have eased into the Women’s Champions League last 16 after a 4-0 second-leg win against Lugano.

Janine Beckie, who also scored in the first-leg, netted a hat-trick and Pauline Bremer sealed an 11-1 aggregate win for City.

Beckie scored her first two goals thanks to assists from Keira Walsh and then struck a brilliant individual goal for her third.

City have now improved on last season’s performance in Europe, after losing to Atlético Madrid in the last 32.

Meanwhile, former City winger Nikita Parris scored a double for defending champions Lyon as they beat Russian side Ryazan convincingly 7-0, and secure their passage to the last 16 with a 16-0 aggregate victory.

Barcelona backed up their 2-0 victory away at Juventus two weeks ago with a 2-1 win at home thanks to Alexia Putellas’ strike and an own goal from midfielder Cristiana Girelli.

Semi-finalists from last season, Wolfsburg picked up a 5-0 win against Mitrovica, and 15-0 aggregate win overall, as they scored three goals in a 14minute period in the first half.

Scottish side Hibernian could not overturn a 4-1 deficit from the first-leg against Slavia Prague and lost 9-2 on aggregate, with Tereza Kožárová scoring twice for the Czechs.

Arsenal play their second-leg against Fiorentina tonight as they look to preserve their 4-0 lead from the first-leg, and continue their impressive start to this season.
